Peniche is a gastronome's delight. All cafes and restaurants serve the wonderful local produce- wines, cheeses, olives, fish, meat, etc, at reasonable prices, well below those of the Algarve. You are never far from somewhere to eat and drink in Peniche. The style is down-to-earth and friendly. Peniche is in a wine producing region (Estramadura), so expect excellent, reasonably price wines. Shopping in the municipal market is a great experience. There are also excellent bakeries, baking several times a day. There are marisquerias, specialising in shellfish, by the beaches, as well as more economical cafes.
